Under the direction of the Head of Schools, serves as an educational leader, who is responsible for managing all affairs of the school. This includes the school-level certified and classified staff. The Director of Academics will also assist with the planning, coordination, and directing of activities and programs, discipline, PBIS and attendance as it relates to the administration of Cirrus Academy Charter School.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Assists in implementing student orientation and registration activities.
2. Assists in the development and establishment of the school’s goals and objectives and the planning of the school’s instructional program.
3. Assists to provide direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with staff to assist in their development.
4. Assists in the evaluation of the school program and of staff and assists in initiating needed improvements.
5. Involves the staff in setting budget priorities.
6. Acts to upgrade own professional knowledge and skills.
7. Assists in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program.
8. Assists to define and disseminate information about school discipline policy and procedures to parents, students, staff, and community.
9. Communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives, and policies to the community.
10. Assists in supervising and maintaining auxiliary service and uses community resources to supplement the school program.
11. Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students and complies with established lines of authority.
12. Assists in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment, and materials.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
1. Adheres to and enforces board policy, school guidelines, administrative directives, and district standards. Has knowledge of local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors.
2. Enforces guidelines to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
3. Assists in the development and administration of policies dealing with discipline, conduct, and attendance.
4. Communicates relevant policies and procedures about student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
5. Works with the Academic Deans and assists faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization.
6. Maintains an effective and safe school environment.
7. Assists Director of Operations with fire, storm and tornado drills on a regular basis and is able to implement emergency evacuations and lockdowns effectively.
8. Assists in curriculum development to meet the needs of all students.
9. Prepares required reports and paperwork such as discipline reports, suspension reports, expulsion paperwork, discrimination complaints, injury reports, parent communications, and other paperwork as assigned.
10. Works with the Head of School on the preparation of appropriate handbooks.
11. Assists in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interprets and implements Cirrus Academy Charter School approved curriculum program in light of individual school needs.
12. Assists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.
13. Assumes leadership of the overall administration of the school in the absence of the Head of School.
14. Supervises and evaluates certified and paraprofessional as assigned.
15. Supervises support services as assigned, along with the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, with follow-up student/parent contact where necessary.
16. Assists in the development of an instructional budget.
17. Works as a team member to meet the system-wide needs of the district.
18. Assists in supervision of special events.
19. Assists in the management of the building and grounds, furniture, equipment, apparatus, books, and supplies. Notifies the Director of Operations when maintenance is needed.
20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Schools.
Education, Training and Experience:
• Master’s Degree or beyond in Educational Leadership with GaPSC certification.
• Five years of successful teaching experience required.
• Ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, families, board members, and the community.
• Knowledge of conflict resolution models.
• Experienced in PBIS.
• Experience in remediation of student adjustment and discipline needs
Preferred:
• Instructional and curriculum leadership experience preferred.
• Teaching and administrative experience.
