Under direction, provides a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist students in the area of academic achievement, career/educational decision making, and personal and social development. Acts as consultant, in this regard, to school staff, parents, and community members.

Primary Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Utilizes responsive counseling, initiates individual and group sessions for students’ personal, social, and academic concerns
  2. Consults with parents and staff to appraise student needs and interests and discuss appropriate recommendations for educational options
  3. Provides school program support by participating in school management team and sharing responsibility for total school programs
  4. Plans and coordinates classroom group guidance sessions to meet the identified guidance and counseling competencies in areas of academic achievement, career and educational development, and personal and social development
  5. Utilizes responsive and group guidance services and school program support to increase student awareness of the world of work and future options open to them
  6. Uses individual planning services to assist students in planning educational experiences which can support their needs and develop their potential
  7. Uses responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual
  8. Provides individual and small group responsive counseling services with identified students for academic or motivational issues
  9. Establishes a counseling and guidance program which meets the student competencies and program implementation as outlined in the CACS Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program
  10. Performs related duties as required

Special Requirements:

Periodic evening meetings with parents and community.

Physical Demands:

Requires good physical and mental stamina, physical mobility, and some moving of materials and equipment for instructional use.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  1. Thorough knowledge of Cirrus Academy Charter School’s Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies
  2. Knowledge of growth and development stages of children
  3. Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material
  4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents
  5. Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to speak effectively to large and small groups
  7. Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with many different types of individuals and groups

Education, Training and Experience:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school Guidance and Counseling
  2. Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred

Certificate and License Requirements:

SRS5 or higher
